This ongoing project is developing a five-year public design framework for Seongbuk-gu, addressing the distinct spatial, demographic, and urban characteristics of its neighborhoods. Rather than applying a uniform approach across the district, the plan analyzes five different living areas to identify their specific challenges and translate them into tailored public design strategies and actionable projects.
Jaeyoung is contributing comprehensively throughout the project, from field research and community perception surveys to public design planning, standard design development, and aerial visualization of pilot projects. His work focuses on translating research findings and user needs into practical design solutions for everyday environments, including sloped pedestrian routes, children’s school zones, redevelopment areas, green and waterfront spaces, and university and commercial districts.
The research findings are being translated into a public design strategy structured around five key themes: safe mobility, inclusive spaces, sustainable urban change, everyday leisure, and Seongbuk’s local identity. These strategies are being developed into actionable projects and mapped across the district through a public design master plan.
A key part of Jaeyoung’s role is developing standard public design solutions that can be consistently applied across Seongbuk-gu. The standard designs address recurring conditions in everyday public spaces—including narrow streets, stairs and sloped environments, and waterfront areas—translating district-wide design principles into practical and implementable design elements.
Jaeyoung is also responsible for developing aerial-view visualizations for pilot projects, translating public design strategies into tangible spatial proposals. These visualizations explore how proposed interventions can transform specific sites, including pedestrian environments, school zones, public spaces, walking routes, waterfront areas, and cultural districts, while communicating the relationship between planning strategies and their future spatial implementation.
The project is currently in progress, integrating the public design master plan, actionable projects, standard designs, pilot project proposals, and design guidelines into a comprehensive framework for the future implementation and management of public design across Seongbuk-gu.
