This project aimed to transform the waterfront area along Anseongcheon into a safer and more accessible pedestrian environment for people with diverse mobility needs, including older adults, wheelchair users, children, and caregivers with strollers. The project addressed limited accessibility, discontinuous pedestrian routes, insufficient wayfinding, and nighttime safety through universal design.
Jaeyoung Myung contributed to universal design development, detailed spatial planning, and 3D visualization. He participated in identifying accessibility issues on site and translating universal design principles into practical interventions across three key sections of the waterfront. The master plan included raised crosswalks, accessible ramps, widened pedestrian paths, safety facilities, and integrated wayfinding systems.
A key part of Jaeyoung Myung’s role was developing the design into construction-ready details. Accessibility requirements were translated into specific dimensions, materials, structures, and details—including accessible ramps, continuous handrails, non-slip paving, tactile paving, safety fences, lighting, and fence-mounted wayfinding signs. The ramp design, for example, secured sufficient width for wheelchair movement and incorporated continuous handrails and lighting to improve both daytime and nighttime accessibility.
The final design connects previously fragmented pedestrian routes and improves access between the street, bridge, and waterfront trail. Beyond conceptual design, the project was developed through detailed design drawings and implementation planning, translating universal design principles into practical solutions that could be constructed, maintained, and used safely by a wider range of people.
